New Years Baby!

Since she was born I've obsessively been taking pictures of my daughter (I don't know if you've noticed?). So as part of my New years resolution I'm committing to taking at least one portrait of her a week. Shouldn't be too tricky, right?

Christmas

As always, Christmas passed as quickly as it came, in a blur or booze, food and family. Rory managed to survive all of the trips between our family's homes and we were all only slightly exhausted by it all.

I hope you all had wonderful Christmases too. Bring on the new year!

Black and white

When I first began taking photographs,  I couldn't afford a DSLR and so shot film on an old Olympus. I didn't know how to develop colour film myself, but had such a love for the darkroom I did all my work in black and white just so I could spend my time there. Unfortunately after I left uni I never got around to building the darkroom of my own that I always said I would. But even after I got my first DSLR my love for colourless photography never left me.

It's beginning to look a lot like christmas

This week Chris and I started decorating for Christmas. While it's exciting to be celebrating the holidays for the first time as a family, I can't wait for Rory to be older so that she can share in the excitement too.

Let the countdown begin!

Winter

The only redeeming quality to the drizzly grey skies of early December is that they mean Christmas is on it's way.

Daddio

Ever since I can remember I've been a Daddy's girl. While I felt as if everybody else in my family placed importance on being my feminine and pretty and proper, my dad fed me up on rock music, horror films and a healthy dose of sarcasm, indulging my fascination with all things morbid by taking me on trips to old castles in search of their torture chambers and by giving me Stephen King and true crime books to read.

When I was 12 and obsessed with The Lord of the Rings he took me all the way to London to stand outside the Two Towers premier for hours in the snow so I could catch a glimpse of the actors. He picked me up from concerts in the middle of the night and waited in the car while my friends and I hung around for autographs. He rescued sheep from murky canals because I couldn't bare to leave them there. He taught me how to draw, to ride a bike, to crack a joke, that knowing things is far more important than having things and that even when everything has gone to hell, to hold my chin up and keep on going.

And while I can't promise that Rory will have as easy-going a parent as I did growing up, she'll always have her grandad and that makes her a very lucky girl.

Tiny

The first few weeks of Rory's life have flown by in a blur of nappies and sleepsuits and it's crazy to look at her now, so chunky and sturdy and think how much she has grown and changed in less than two months. But no matter how big she feels when I pick her up, she still seems so small and fragile when her dad holds her.
Maybe she always will.

Brothers

Macauly (above) and Cody (below) are my step-brothers kids, both of whom have the most amazing blue eyes I've ever seen, which are handy assets to have when you're as mischievous as these two.

Rory's mother's mother's mother.

Last week my mom and I drove to Wales and Rory got to meet her great grandmother, Audrey.

Starchild

Rory at 8 days old.

While I can't wait for her to grow and become the wonderful little person that I know she will be, a part of me wishes she could stay this tiny and sweet forever.

Lavender

Dried lavender from my mother-in-law's garden makes my whole house smell so lovely.

Bridgnorth Music and Arts Festival 2013

So it's that time of year again and I somehow managed to haul my ridiculously pregnant self to see my father-in-law's band play.

Fortunately he was nice enough to bring along a lawn chair for me, though it didn't exactly provide the greatest vantage point. At least I got lots of shots of adorable dogs though.

And this kid.
